Starting Your journey

At Stewart Milne Group, we believe that there is no wrong path and are proud to have a culture that has no limits on personal development. Our Chairman's a prime example, growing from an Apprentice Electrician to founder of one of the UK's largest privately-owned Housebuilding and Timber System providers.

Stewart's journey has inspired the apprentices and students we have in the business today, and we're proud to have 40+ apprentices and students building their career with us. Our apprenticeships are as diverse as the people in them, and we offer several routes into the sector:

Modern Apprenticeships (Fast Track)

  • This award-winning programme is for aspiring Assistant Site Managers and Contract Supervisors in the Housebuilding & Modern Methods of Construction sector and aims to train anyone with the right attitude, regardless of industry experience.
  • The programme is 9-months and 13 months on the job completion of SVQ.
  • Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), Skills Development Scotland (SDS), Homes for Scotland and SQA are involved in the development of the course.

Trade Apprenticeships

  • On-site apprenticeships currently in the business include Joiners, Plumbers, Painters, Bricklayers and Electricians.
  • Apprenticeships run in conjunction with related college courses, and each apprentice is paired with a journeyman (experienced tradesman) to support them as they build up their skills and confidence on site.
  • This apprenticeship which is supported by CITB and SDS allows participants to work while they learn.

Graduate Apprenticeships in Construction and the Built Environment

  • This apprenticeship blends academic study with work-based learning and supports apprentices in their journey towards Site Management.
  • The course awards a BSc (Hons) Construction and the Built Environment and is a four-year course.

Supporting Schools

  • We are proud of our sector and actively promote careers in construction to local schools.
  • We have signed up to the career-ready a programme where pupils (aged 11-18) are mentored by a professional in our business.  Pupils confidence builds through mentorship, paid internship and an insight into the world of work.

Student Placement

  • We regularly work with local colleges and universities, where we operate, to provide support for students looking to gain experience in the Construction Sector.
  • In our Homes North Scotland Division, we are proud to partner with Robert Gordon University to provide placement opportunities for Quantity Surveying students.
